- Be aware of Altitude. They don't call it the "Mile High City" for nothing! If you're from lower altitudes, take it easy your first few days. Signs of altitude sickness may include headache and dizziness. To avoid it, drink lots of water and give your body a few days to adjust before heading up into the high country.
- Dry and Ever-Changing Weather. Take lots of lotion and lip balm. Denver's dry weather means dry lips and skin - but thankfully, no frizzy hair! Be sure to dress in layers during your stay in Denver-- Colorado's weather can change in an instant.
- Sun, Sun and More Sun! With more than 300 sunny days a year, Denver enjoys some beautiful weather, even in the winter. Be sure to remember the sunscreen. The sun shines bright at a mile high.
- Pet-Friendly. Denverites love their dogs - and your pet will feel right at home here. There are plenty of pet-friendly hotels and places for Fido to play. Ask about local dog parks, where your furry friend can run free and play with other four-footed creatures.
- Get Outdoors! Outdoor fun is king here. Live like a local and get out and enjoy Mother Nature. Denver - and Colorado in general offer a healthy, active vacation.
- Plan Ahead and Save Many Denver attractions offer discount pricing if you purchase tickets online or at King Soopers, a local grocery chain. Purchase your tickets ahead of your visit and save some hard-earned cash.
- Get out of Denver for a while. The stunning Rocky Mountains are just a 20-minute drive away. There are dozens of open space parks with rivers, hiking trails, lakes and biking paths to explore. Check online for a list of Jefferson County Open Space Parks.
- Eat out a little earlier to avoid a wait. Head to Denver restaurants around 6 pm, and you'll rarely stand in line.
- Parking is fairly easy to find in Denver. There are plenty of coin meters and affordable pay lots. Garages are more expensive. On Sundays, meter parking is free.
- Colorado is about casual and outdoor fun. You can leave your formal clothes at home. Dress comfortably. And be sure to bring your sunglasses and good walking shoes. And don't forget your camera!
