100 things to do in D.C. [Pictures]

Summer brings a host of visitors to Washington for patriotic holidays, including Memorial Day and the Fourth of July. Tourism officials say Washington saw a record 17.9 million visitors last year, surpassing a previous record of 17.4 million set in 2000 before the 9/11 attacks. There are plenty of events, parades and special attractions to please the global crowds. But Washington is worth a visit any time of the year. To salute the nation's capital, we've come up with a list of 100 of our favorite things to do in D.C. Also see:

Become engaged in the Battle of Baltimore at the National Museum of American History. Besides the vintage flag that inspired Francis Scott Keys' Star Spangled Banner, artifacts include Plymouth Rock, the Greensboro lunch counter, Dorothy's ruby slippers and coming soon: Bob Dylan's leather jacket.
