WALMART TO AWARD $1 MILLION TOWARD HUNGER RELIEF CHARITIES
Lafayette and Kokomo communities named as potential recipients for $1 MILLION grant
Food Finders needs your help now!

The Walmart Foundation kicked off its Fighting Hunger Together campaign on April 9. As a part of this campaign, the 200 communities in the country with the highest unemployment rates were chosen to be a part of a Facebook vote held by Walmart. Two of the communities in the running are Lafayette, IN and Kokomo, IN, both cities in the Food Finders Food Bank service area. The community that receives the most online votes will win $1M from Walmart while the 20 runner-up towns will receive $50K.

Cast your votes daily for both the Lafayette and Kokomo communities now until April 30 at: http://apps.facebook.com/walmartfighthunger/. “With nearly 97,000 food insecure residents in our service area, we cannot afford to sit back and pass up an opportunity like this”, says Development Director, Kier Crites. With Food Finders’ buying power, $1M can easily turn in to 3 million meals to feed those in need in our communities.

Week of the Young Child™ April 22 to 28

Young children are the future of our communities, and there are many ways that the Greater Lafayette area can come together for children. April 22 to 28 is “Week of the Young Child™,” a time when we can reach out in our communities to help young children.

Take some time to support early literacy initiatives, thank teachers who work with our children, and work toward public policies that benefit all young children. For more information, call Heather Wenig with the Tippecanoe County Association for the Education of Young Children. (765) 477-2010
